BOC General Assembly approves constitution amendments

The Bahrain Olympic Committee’s new constitution has received the recognition by its General Assembly, the committee announced yesterday (Tuesday, May 20) during the Ordinary General Assembly meeting.
The final amendments made on the constitution, recently approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), were also given confirmation by members of the General Assembly.
Held at the Sofitel Hotel in Zallaq, the Ordinary General Assembly meeting was chaired by BOC treasurer Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa, and attended by acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, board members Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, Dr Khalid Al Alawi, Abdulhakim Al Shino, Ali Isa and Ruqaya Al Ghasra.
The administrative report of 2013, featuring the programmes and events organised by different directorates of the committee, besides the overseas participations and different achievements that were accomplished in 2013, were among other issues discussed at the meeting.
More subjects highlighted were the concluding financial report of 2013, approved by Talal Abu Ghazaleh auditing firm, presenting the BOC plans, the new budget of the committee in 2014 and some suggestions submitted by members of the General Assembly.
BOC financial resources director Hamad Buhijji make a special presentation on the financial plan for 2014, in which he explained the measures taken by the Committee to reduce the impact of budget cuts, and analyze the percentage decrease in the committee and sports federations budget.
Buhijji also presented the procedures to prepare a draft budget for 2014, which include the formation of a committee comprising representatives of different directorate and the sports advisor to study the decline in the budget and adjust it before submitting it to the BOC board for approval.
Also present were representatives of 27 of the 28 national sports federations, including football, volleyball, basketball, handball, equestrian and endurance, athletics, table tennis, swimming, cycling, weightlifting and bodybuilding, fencing, badminton and squash, and maritime sports.
Other sports federations are billiards and snooker, triathlon, mind games, gold, tennis, bowling, shooting, disabled sports, martial arts, motor sports, sport for all, air sports, pigeons and the players committee, while there was no show for a cricket association representative.
