Representatives from the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) attended the 2015 Olympic Solidarity/OCA Regional Forum for South, West and Central Asia in Tashkent, in Uzbekistan recently.
BOC Arab and International Relations Director Fajer Jassim and manager of the Olympic Solidarity/Arab International Relations Maryam Mardana both represented Bahrain at the two-day event, in which they were joined representatives of 25 other National Olympic Committees from South, West and Central Asia.
National Olympic Committees of Kuwait, which has been suspended by the IOC, and Yemen, were the only two organisations absent at the forum.
The forum focused on preparing NOCs for the Rio Olympics in 2016, as a five-member delegation from Rio 2016, led by NOC Relations Asia Manager Sarah Paterson, made presentations on a number of subjects to highlight the organisers’ preparations.
The progress report covered information on the venues, sports, training venues, Olympic Village, food and beverage, arrival and departure, transport, accommodation, logistics, ticketing, rate card and technology and medical services.
Other presentations were given by the organising committees from the Da Nang Asian Beach Games 2016, Ashgabat Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games 2017, Sapporo Asian Winter Games 2017 and Sixth Children of Asia International Sports Games 2016.
