?The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) yesterday ( Nov. 18) organised a diabetes campaign to mark the World Diabetes Day celebrations.The campaign, held at the committee premises in Seef District under the slogan ‘Test…Learn…Join’, was part of the BOC strategy to spread diabetes education and prevention among its employees, which is the World Diabetes Day main theme.It also called on all those responsible for diabetes care to understand diabetes and take control. Held in cooperation with the Bahrain Specialist Hospital, the campaign and featured an awareness lecture for its staff on general guidance on diabetes, prevention ways and treatment methods.Dr Hadi Mohammed of the Bahrain Specialist Hospital highlighted the reasons for this phenomena and ways to prevent it.“For people with diabetes, this event is a message about empowerment through education, while for governments, it is a call to implement effective strategies and policies for the prevention and management of diabetes to safeguard the health of their citizens with and at risk of diabetes,” ,” said Dr Hadi.“As for healthcare professionals, it is a call to improve knowledge so that evidence-based recommendations are put into practice”.Dr Hadi noted that this annual campaign also aims to help the public understand the serious impact of diabetes and know, where possible, how to avoid or delay diabetes and its complicationsAs part of yesterday’s function, free-of-charge medical tests were made available for the committee employees to detect blood sugar levels, besides providing a variety of guidance on proper food.The campaign was organised in the presence of BOC Acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, in addition to representatives of the committee’s Executive Management.
