?Representatives from the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) and the Education Ministry had an agreement to launch a new project titled ‘School Olympics’.
At a meeting, which was attended by BOC acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar with Education Ministry’s Physical Education, Scouting and Guidance Director Dr Shaikha Al Jeeb, both parties have agreed to set up their plan to initiative a special programme which will be carried out in Bahrain for the first time.
The project is part of the BOC vision and strategy, and its partnership with the Education Ministry, aimed to discovering new talents in a variety of sports.
The meeting was also attended by BOC Technical Director Lounes Madene, BOC Corporate Communication’s Executive Coordinator Fajer Jassim and Education Ministry’s Physical Education Section head Essam Abdulla.
Madene made a presentation on the programme, which aimed to motivate youngsters from different government and private schools to practice various types of sports and follow a healthy lifestyle and introduce them to the Olympic values and principles.
He added that the project features educational programmes, field visits and meetings with Olympic champions in an attempt to motivate them and follow the same lifestyle of those champions. Sports competitions to be organised this year include football, basketball, athletics and table tennis.
On her part, Dr Shaikha Al Jeeb expressed admiration for the project and its objectives, pointing out her directorate willingness to harness all its available facilities and abilities to ensure this programme is a success, stressing the keenness of the ministry, specifically the Physical Education, Scouting and Girl Guidance Directorate, in strengthening the partnership with the BOC.
The two sides will hold several meetings late on in order to develop operational frameworks for this project, such as the formation of working committees, defining their tasks besides the overall budget.
