?Bahrain will take on Taipei today (September 23) as they kick-start their campaign in the second round of the Handball Championship in the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, in South Korea.
This game is scheduled to tip off at 8am (Bahrain time). Following their impressive 26-20 victory over Saudi Arabia in the concluding Group ‘A’ game in the preliminary round, the Bahrainis were placed in a much easier group in the second round where they will play against Qatar, Kuwait and Taipei.
In the tougher four-team Group ‘B’, South Korea will fight it out with Iran, Saudi Arabia and Oman, with only the top two teams from each group reaching the semi-finals knock-out round.
Going up against a less experienced Taipei, the Bahrainis will be banking on a group of prominent handball players like Abdulqader brothers Jaffar and Mahmood, in addition to Hussain Al Sayyad, Mohammed Al Maqabi, Mahdi Madan, Hasan Al Samahiji and goalkeeper Mohammed Abdulhussain.
Algerian coach of Bahrain Salah Bouchekriou is also expected to introduce some of his bench players for today’s relatively easy game, including Mohammed Merza, Hasan Al Fardan, Sadiq Abdulla, Mohamed Al Maqabi, Ali Merza and substitute goalkeeper Jassim Radhi.
Elsewhere, Bahrain’s national shooting team member Ali Hussain completed his men’s 10m air rifle event in 11th place from among 53 participants yesterday. 
The contest, held at the  shooting range, located 20km away from the Ongnyeon International shooting range, saw Bahrain’s other shooter Mahmood Haji finish in 39th place.
Meanwhile, Bahrain national sailor Abdulla Janahi will begin his quest in the Games today when he competes in the Laser Standard Class, in which some of the continents’ top sailors are in the fray.
The Bahrain Olympic Committee honored the administrative delegation at a luncheon held at Arabesque Restaurant yesterday. The function took place in the presence of the committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar and Bahrain Handball Association president Ali Isa Ishaqi.
Former national athletics team star, Arab fastest girl and Bahrain Olympic Committee member Ruqaya Al Ghasra arrived in Incheon yesterday to join the technical team supervising the athletics events.
She will also be attending the Asian Athletics Association meeting on Friday (September 26), and ahead of the athletics competitions which starts the following day.
Al Ghasra became a member of the continental association after winning 28 out of the 43 total votes at the General Assembly meeting held in Buna, in India.
