Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar congratulated the kingdom’s leadership on Bahrain’s junior athletic team winning first place at the West Asia Championship in Bahrain.
The championship, which concluded recently at Khalifa Sports City Stadium, saw 12 Bahraini sprinters clinch 27 medals in total – including 18 gold and 7 sliver.
The result not only gave the tournament hosts the tournament crown, but also helped them qualify for the IAAF World Under-20 Championship in Poland this year between July 19 and 24.
Askar attributed the Bahraini sprinters’ achievement to the support and care of the kingdom’s leadership to the sports movement and sportspeople in the kingdom and paving perfect atmospheres, which ensured such achievements that confirm Bahrain’s presence at all sports levels.
The BOC general secretary noted the efforts of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa the Representative of HM the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council chairman and BOC president, and lauded His Highness’s care and support for Bahrain’s participation at local, regional and international sports events.
Askar also said this accomplishment was a result of the wise management of Bahrain Athletic Association, presided over by Supreme Council of Youth and Sports first deputy chairman Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, citing the huge previous accomplishments and voicing optimism for more accomplishments in upcoming championships.
He lauded the efforts of Bahrain’s national team of sprinters, which had positive influence on winning the overall title as 12 Bahraini sprinters made it to the next edition of the world championship.
