?Bahrain’s national squash team received significant praise after winning the GCC Championship for the first time in Doha recently.
The nationals edged defending champions Kuwait 2-1 in the semi-finals, then defeated Saudi Arabia 2-1 in the final match to secure the competition’s gold medal and their maiden title.
Spearheading the Bahrain were Ahmed Abbas, Adnan Sayed Ihsan and Yousef Al Abbasi, who showed high spirit and impressive overall skills to bring the gold medal to Bahrain.
The team’s victory was hailed by Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar at a reception ceremony at Bahrain International Airport.
Askar conveyed the congratulations of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, and BOC President to members of the team on this occasion.
The BOC general secretary commended the achievement and noted the impressive performance and results marked by members of Bahrain team throughout the championship.
He also lauded the efforts of the Bahrain Badminton and Squash Federation, headed by president Shaikh Hussan bin Isa Al Khalifa, which played a major part in the victory.
