?The Organising Committee of the 2017 Bahrain Sport Day is holding its third meeting today (Wednesday) to prepare for this year’s event, due to take place on February 7.
The 2017 Bahrain Sport Day will take place as per a decision of GCC National Olympic Committees’ Presidents to involve GCC citizens in a number of sports activities on a particular day.
Southern Governor and Organising Committee chairman Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa will be chairing today’s meeting, in which the complete programme and list of activities for the event will be finalized.
The organizing committee includes Supreme Council for Youth and Sports deputy general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar as well as BOC representatives Abduljalil Asad, Fajer Jassim, Yaqoub Abdulmohsin.
It also includes representatives of Bahrain’s four governorates, namely Zuhair Al Absi (Muharraq Governorate), Hasan Al Madani (Capital Governorate), Mohammed Darwish (Northern Governorate) and Salah Shehab (Southern Governorate).
Other members are Dr Waleed Al Manea (Health Ministry), Dr Shaikh Saqer bin Salman Al Khalifa (Youth and Sports Affairs Ministry), Khalid Al Kooheji (Labor and Social Development Ministry), Abdulla Al Blooshi (Information Affairs Ministry), Dr Osama Al Jowder (University of Bahrain) and Rashid Al Zayani (Supreme Council for Youth and Sports).
The Bahrain Sport Day will bring several sports competitions for youngsters and adults, including a track-and-field races and a cross country race.
Other activities feature swimming competition, sailing and rafting, a handball tournament for 9-14 years old, a table tennis event, in addition to 30km and 90km cycling races.
