?Bahrain and Saudi Arabia won a combined bid to win the right of hosting their first-ever Asian Junior and Youth Fencing Championships scheduled to take place in 2016.
The efforts of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia fencing federations paid off at the end as they won 22 votes out of 29, beating other bids from China, Thailand and Uzbekistan, to become joint organisers of this event.
This came during the Fencing Confederation of Asia General Assembly meeting, which was held recently on the sidelines of the Asian championship presently being organized in the Philippines.
Saudi Arabia is scheduled to host the men’s competition, while co-hosts Bahrain will embrace the women’s division events. The championships is considered a qualifier for the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in Brazil in 2016. 
This bid campaign was admired by the majority of the General Assembly members, thanks to the constant coordination and cooperation between the two kingdoms which started two months ago.
Bahrain Fencing Association president Shaikh Ebrahim bin Salman Al Khalifa expressed pride for this achievement, and said he was pleased for the constructive cooperation with president of the Saudi Fencing Federation Sami Al Bakr.
Shaikh Salman stressed the importance of this partnership with other GCC fencing federations on the long term, in an attempt to host major continental championship, which would influence on developing the domestic competitions.
He also thanked Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa for supporting all sporting events which involve the Bahraini youth.
On his part, Bahrain Fencing Association general secretary Saleh Al Faraj affirmed Bahrain’s readiness ability to hold the Asian Championships in 2016, which is due to the availability of modern sports facilities.
