Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant secretary general and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) secretary general Abdulrahman Askar congratulated Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa on Bahrain fighters winning 10 medals at the recently concluded IMMAF-WMMAA Unified World Championships in Bahrain.
Bahrain took one gold, three silver and six bronze – in the biggest mixed martial arts (MMA) event of its kind in Asia at the Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town.
Askar also expressed his deepest congratulations to Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, and BOC President, on this remarkable achievement.
The BOC secretary general noted the contributions of the Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Federation, headed by organsing committee chairman Khalid Al Khayyat, who spared no efforts to make the event a great success.
Askar noted the federation’s experience in hosting the championship, which has witnessed the participation of more than 500 fighters representing some 55 countries from around the world, which strengthens the Kingdom of Bahrain as a prominent destination for mixed martial arts in the region.
All the 10 fighters were representing the KHK MMA Bahrain team of Shaikh Khalid, who attended the closing ceremony on Saturday along with event patron Shaikh Nasser.?
