?Bahrain Club’s table tennis team has stepped up their training for the second edition of the Women’s Sports Tournament, to be held in Sharjah from February 1 to 12.
The table tennis team, being coached by Croatia’s Boris Banicek, has started practicing on daily basis at the Bahrain Table Tennis Association Gym in Riffa. It will be the second appearance for the Bahraini team in this event.
The team had some remarkable results in their maiden participation in the 2012 edition tournament, also staged in Sharjah.
Bahrain Club administrator Latifa Al Khaja said the team kicked started their preparations with three sessions per day, which was before school exams. The team then resumed training after the exams with twice a day sessions.
According to Latifa, the team will be spearheaded by four players, namely Kaltham Elyasi, Nadeen Al Khodr, Fatma Al Haiki, in addition to a newly-imported Korean professional who replaces injured veteran Maryam Al Qassmi.
Latifa noted that the Romanian national team are scheduled to arrive in Bahrain this week for a joint training camp with the Bahrain team, whom she hopes will make maximum benefit from this visit.
Latifa said the players are showing great discipline and high spirit during training, hoping that the team will live up to their aspirations once the tournament begins.
She extended her appreciation to Bahrain Olympic Committee women’s sports committee member and Bahrain Table Tennis Association president Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, who has been following up the team progress since the start of their preparations.
Bahrain is scheduled to take part in six sporting disciplines at the event, namely volleyball, athletics, table tennis, basketball, shooting and fencing.
