?The Kingdom of Bahrain has begun its preparations to compete in the coming GCC Beach Games due to take place in Saudi Arabia. The second edition of the games is scheduled to be held from October 15 to 26 in Dammam.
Representatives of 11 national sports associations involved in the games and the Bahrain Olympic Committee attended the first coordinating meeting in Seef yesterday to set up a number of issues to facilitate the teams’ participation.
BOC Projects director Lounes Madene welcomed the sports associations’ representatives at the meeting and noted the importance of the Second GCC Beach Games, which is one of the major regional sporting events.
Madene made a presentation on the Games, which comprises 12 sports, namely football, volleyball, basketball, handball, swimming, equestrian, table tennis, karate, weightlifting, bowling and goalball.
Bahrain will seek to present in at least four disciplines – football, volleyball, basketball, handball, swimming and athletics.
Madene also revealed the number of athletes eligible to take part in all competitions, and urged the sports associations to work hard in preparing their teams. He also asked them to submit any needs requests related to the athletes.
