?Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee President chaired Bahrain’s side at the 21st Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) General Assembly recently in Doha.
The biggest General Assembly in the history of the ANOC came to an end with a series of resolutions at the Doha Sheraton Convention Centre on Wednesday (Nov. 16).
Resolutions include ANOC’s acknowledgement of the Rio Olympics as a great success watched by half the world’s population, and giving “much confidence” for the upcoming Asian era of PyeongChang 2018, Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022.
The record-breaking 1,200 delegates included representatives from 205 of the 206 National Olympic Committees, as ANOC President Shaikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah described the gathering as ‘a full house’ and said it had produced progress, cooperation and solidarity as well as the resolutions.
Shaikh Ahmed thanked IOC President Thomas Bach, and noted that the Olympic Movement had dealt with these issues successfully.
He also thanked the Emir, HH Shaikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, HE Shaikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, for all their preparations to create a “great environment” for the meeting.
The Bahrain delegation comprised Supreme Council general secretary and BOC vie-president Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Supreme Council assistant general secretary and BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, BOC board member Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa and Arab Relations head Mohammed Al Zayed.
