?The Bahrain Athletics Association (BAA) recently won second place in the GCC Sport and Environment Award in Doha.
The GCC Sport and Environment Award is a gulf initiative aims at preserving the environmental standards, environmental safety in GCC and encouraging the organizing committees to adopt the environmental dimension in all the sport activities, facilities and competitions.
The GCC Sport and Environment Committee announced the top winners of its third Annual Award 2013-2014 on Sport and Environment in Doha, where the GCC Volleyball Organizing Committee claimed the first place.
BAA clinched the second place and the GCC Basketball Organizing Committee finished in the third place.
Bahrain’s achievement was lauded by Sport and Environment Committee at the Bahrain Olympic Committee Isa Abdulrahim, who said this result is a continuation of the tremendous achievements of the BAA, headed by Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Abdulrahim also appreciated the Award significant role in increasing people culture about environment protection and environmental improvement.
He noted that outstanding efforts of the association in an attempt to promote environment awareness among athletes in the Bahraini athletes, and praised the campaign file submitted by the BAA to win top award in this regional competition.
Bahrain had already won two awards in the first edition of the award in 2011 held in Bahrain, where the Bahrain Cycling Association came on top, while the Bahrain Maritime Sports Association was third.
The GCC Sport and Environment Committee members and staff, on their part, thanked Dr. Abdullah Al Hashim, the GCC Assistant Secretary General for Human and Environment Affairs, for their great effort in backing the committee objectives since foundation.
The GCC Sport and Environment Committee also comprises Director of Sport Department at GCC Ahmed Al Hamaidi, Hilal Al Sinani (Oman), Abdullah Al Shalhoub (KSA) and Tareq Saied Al Abdullah (Qatar).
