?The Bahrain Olympic Committee’s (BOC) Athletic Performance Lab is now up and running officially, providing medical services for all athletes in Bahrain, the committee announced yesterday (Saturday).
The inauguration of the lab, located at Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town, was attended by BOC projects manager Lounes Madene, Media and Public Relations director Mohammed Lori, laboratory supervisor Dr Vladimir Suarez of Cuba and representatives of local media.
Madene said the laboratory is open to all athletes and to the public. The facility will be available to national teams players free of charge, while sports clubs players and the public will be charged nominal fees.
He said the lab has indeed been running for a long time, but was only accepting a few national team players, and is now ready to welcome all those wishing to check their physical abilities.
Madene also spoke with Dr Suarez on the available machines at the lab, the first of which is the ECG that detects any abnormal heart cases, and measures the ability of the person to exercise, as well as determining any risk while exercising.
The facility also contains another significant analysis device – VO2 max –  which measures the efficiency of heart during exercises, specifically running, and get to know more about whether there are heart issues. This machine performs two tests – one during the break and the second during physical activity.
The body composition analysis to analysis that analyzes the ratio of fat, muscle and water in the body and cells was also presented. Dr. Suarez also conducted a practical experiment on one of the attendees and immediately extracted results that showed all the information about the body’s parts.
Finally, both officials spoke about the lower limbs explosive power measurement system, in which a person makes several leaps to measure the lower muscles.
