?Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar expressed the committee’s keenness to build bridges of cooperation with the French commune of Schiltigheim in all areas, especially in boxing.

This statement was announced after Askar’s meeting with representatives from Schiltigheim, the largest suburb of the city of Strasbourg, in North-Eastern France, headed by mayor Jean-Marie Kutner.

The 10-memberg delegation also features members of Schiltigheim Boxing Club, including President Alain Greitzer, coach Ahmed Al Meraoui and boxing champion Ahmed Rifaie.

In the meeting, Kutner invited Askar to establish a partnership between the committee and the club in order to officially introduce boxing in Bahrain.

The visiting delegation proposal offers long-term training programmes for the new boxers and coaches in order to put Bahrain on the right track to become one of the prominent nations embrace martial arts sports, and especially boxing.

“We would like to take this opportunity to offer our expertise in the field of boxing, and we look forward to see this sport expand in Bahrain and create heroes who can compete on an international level in the future,” said Kutner.

“It will be great pleasure and honor for us to have an agreement with Bahrain to allow us to qualify national coaches and contribute to the development of boxing in this country”.

“Our main purpose of this event is to further boost ties between Bahrain and France through sport, and we are so confident that significant partnership awaits,” added Kutner. 

Kutner also admired the development of certain sports in Bahrain, and welcomed the Kingdom to compete in an international table tennis championship that will be hosted by  Schiltigheim in August next year.
On his part, Rifaie made a presentation of the delegation’s proposal, which includes an offer to host training courses for Bahraini coaches in France to obtain a diploma from certified by the International Boxing Federation.

He also noted that two of any selected boxers from Bahrain will have the opportunity to take part in professional boxing competitions in France, and revealed Schiltigheim’s plan to organize an international boxing championship for the first time in an Arab country soon.
At the end of the meeting, Kutner presented the club’s official jersey to Askar, who also received the club’s trophy from Rifaie.

In return, Askar presented commemorative trophies to all members of Schiltigheim delegation in appreciation to their partnership initiative.
