?Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar yesterday (OCT. 28) lauded the remarkable results of Bahrain’s national athletics team at the second West Asian Junior Athletics Championship, which concluded recently in Amman.This came during Askar’s visit to the Bahrain Athletics Association (BAA) premises in Riffa last night, which marked the delegations’ return from the Jordanian capital.The function was also attended by West Asian Athletics Association general secretary Abdullatif Jalal and Bahrain delegation head Bader Nasser, who dedicated the trophy to Askar.The nationals won the overall title during the three-day event, taking their tally to 24 medals, including 14 gold, nine silver and one bronze medal. The championship featured broad participation from several Arab and other regional countries.The Bahraini junior athletics team were crowned champions of the tournament as they finished ahead of Iraq, who came second, and third-placer Qatar.During the visit, Askar asserted that such an impressive achievement is the fruitful result of the wise leadership’s continuous follow-up and the directives of Supreme Council for Youth and Sport Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa to provide all necessary support for Bahraini male and female athletes at all levels.Askar added that such an unprecedented victory is also the outcome of the tremendous efforts of the administrative and technical staff, as well as the athletes’ determination to earn the kingdom as many medals as possible, noting that the title reflects BAA’s sound policies and will motivate it to advance Bahrain’s sport movement and bring about more landmark results at the coming competitions.He lauded the athletes’ impressive performance during this regional competition and congratulated all members of the delegation, wishing the medal-winners further success and commended the efforts of the others.Askar highlighted the importance of the outstanding results achieved by members of the team, and dedicated this unprecedented achievements of the kingdom’s delegation to His Majesty King Hamad, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier.The BOC acting general secretary also stressed the significant role of First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport and President of the Bahrain Athletics Association (BAA) Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who provided all means of support to the team, which had contributed to this achievement.
