?Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar received on Monday (May 5) representatives of the International Olympic Committee’s Olympic Solidarity Olivier Niamkey and Edward James.
The visiting pair is in Bahrain to attend the Olympic Solidarity and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Regional Forum for West, Central and South Asian National Olympic Committees, which gets underway today.
Askar welcomed both officials in Bahrain and conveyed the greetings of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman, BOC president and event patron Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and his best wishes for them.
Askar also briefed them on the BOC preparations to host this major regional forum, and asserted the committee’s keenness to make sure the success of the event and embody the strong ties between the International Olympic Committee and the National Olympic Committees in Asia.
The event, to be held in Bahrain for the first time, is scheduled to take place from May 6 to 9 and will be organised in cooperation with the OCA. It will be attended by 54 officials from 26 countries, in addition to five representatives from the Olympic Solidarity Committee and three from the OCA.
Meanwhile, delegations representatives continued to arrive in Bahrain yesterday. They include Iran Olympic Committee general secretary Shahrokh Shahnazi as well as representatives of the South Korean Olympic Committee, who will be making presentations on Incheon City preparations to host the 17th Asian Games in September.
The remaining delegations, meanwhile are due to reach Bahrain today. They include OCA  director Haider Farman, Brian Minikin of the Olympic Solidarity and Jerome from the International Olympic Committee.
The first sessions of the forum is scheduled for tomorrow at the Regency Hotel’s Riffa Ballroom right after the opening ceremony.
The first day will feature the Olympic Solidarity programme provided by the International Olympic Committee and presented by Olympic Solidarity delegates from Switzerland. Their main topic will be NOCs good governance.
