?The Bahrain national volleyball team will soon receive their awards after winning the most recent edition of the GCC Championship in 2013.
This was announced as per the directives of Bahrain Olympic Committee acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar during a visit to the Bahrain Volleyball Association (BVA).
In his meeting with BVA president Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, general secretary Feras Al Halwachi, and board members Mohammed Habib and Mohammed Kadhim, Askar directed to honour members of the junior team for winning both the GCC and Arab championships, both in 2013.
Both teams will now be rewarded in a special ceremony to be confirmed at a later date. Also during the visit, Shaikh Ali gave details to Askar on the future plans and programmes of the association, which will be hosting three championships this year.
They are the Asian Men’s Junior Championship, the GCC Men’s Junior Championship and the GCC Women’s Junior Championship, while the Bahrain will take part in the Arab Men’s Senior Championship, which is yet to be finalised.
Askar was also briefed on the needs of the associations, which includes a purpose-built beach volleyball stadium for training purposes.
Shaikh Ali also noted the illegal lightening system available at the association’s premises at Isa Town Sports City, which requires immediate action, as the Inspection Committee is scheduled to visit Bahrain next month to inspect the available facilities that will host the Arab Men’s Junior Championship.
Askar vowed to fulfil these demands in accordance to the available capabilities, noting that the BOC will address the General Organisation for Youth and Sports, the responsible authority for sports facilities, to discuss the possibility of allocating a property to establish a beach volleyball arena.
Askar also promised to submit another proposal to Goys in regards to the lightening system issue to have it fixed at the earliest.
At the end of the meeting, BOC sports affairs executive director Jehad Khalfan made a presentation on the organizational structure of his directorate and the services provided to the sports federations.
