Supreme Council for Youth and Sports deputy general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar congratulated Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa on his outstanding result at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships held in the Slovak Republic.
Shaikh Nasser, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, and BOC President, completed all stages of the race within a record 4:27:21 hours’ time.
He finished the 1.93 km swimming challenge in 31:30, 90.1 km cycling race within 2:22 and 21.1 km running race in 1:28. His Highness competed and won the 27th place among 3,000 triathletes from around the world.
Askar commended the achievement of Shaikh Nasser at such an international championship, which requires significant physical strength and stamina, and noted that Shaikh Nasser’s remarkable finish culminated a long training programme set up in advance to prepare for this challenging event.
“Achieving this honorable finish by His Highness Shaikh Nasser was a result of his determination to compete at these international sports championships and raise the flag of the Kingdom of Bahrain high,” said Askar. “His Highness represents a model for Bahrain’s challenging youth and is a keen athlete to represent his nation at various levels in the best possible way”.
