They then will be heading towards Isa Sport City premises near the National Stadium, as a group of the participating students will be handling the torch till it reaches the targeted destination.
Upon arrival, the big main torch will be lit up for one week when the curtain comes down on this edition of the Mini Olympics. Today’s ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Bahrain Volleyball Association’s gym from 11am onwards.
Meanwhile, the final rehearsal for the opening ceremony was staged yesterday, where BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar looked into the closing preparations ahead of today’s ceremony.
Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, president of the Bahrain Volleyball Association, said the Mini Olympics reflects the great support offered by the BOC in an attempt to expand the principles of the Olympics and take advantage of school sports to discover promising talents in different sports.
He noted the continued support of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa to all sports competitions, in general, and the Mini Olympics, in specific, which played a major part in the development of sports in the country.
On his part, Parliament Council member Jalal Kadim said this programme organized by the BOC in cooperation with the ministry is a national project to build the future generations capable of bringing new achievements to Bahraini sport.
Kadim said the Mini Olympics targets young talents and expand the foundation of athletic students at schools as well as promoting their skills.
Another Parliament Member Adel Al Asoomi said the Mini Olympics is without a doubt a very successful strategic project that requires a lot of hard work and concentration to choose the most skillful talents to represent Bahrain in future tournaments.
Al Asoomi added that school sport has become a very important part of our life, and must be taken to another level in order to promote sports in Bahrain and achieve the aspired objectives.
