?Bahrain’s Al Shabab Club has reached their final preparations phase for the athletics event in the second edition of the Arab Women’s Sports Tournament.
The tournament is scheduled to take place in Sharjah for the second successive time from February 2 to 12.
Al Shabab team administrator Khadija Al Aradi said the team, who will be making debut in the tournament, is sending seven athletes for the upcoming event.
They include Fatin Abdulnabi (100m & 4 x100m), Maryam Al Ansari (long & high jump), Basma Mohammed (shot put & discus throw) and Salha Mohammed (100m hurdles).
The remaining team members are Hajer Saeed (100 & 200m, 4x100m) and Sabreen Yousif (long jump).
The team is being coached by speed coach Khalid Juma, jump coach Jalina, shot put coach Hassan Muftah and physiotherapist Abdulrazzaq Yaqoot.
Al Aradi expressed great confidence in the ability of her players to achieve positive results which underlines the development of athletics in Bahrain and its abilities to compete on the GCC and Arab level.
She said that the selection of the athletes travelling to Sharjah was based on their personnel best in a number of domestic competitions held throughout the year.
Al Aradi lauded the continued follow up of the Bahrain Athletics Association officials, in addition to the women’s sports committee at the Bahrain Olympic Committee, who have been working hard to provide all that would contribute to achieve the aspired results.
Besides athletics, the Bahrainis are scheduled to compete in five different sporting disciplines in this tournament. They are volleyball, table tennis, shooting, fencing and basketball.
Al Ahli will spearhead Bahrain in the volleyball tournament, Bahrain Club in table tennis, Bahrain Fencing Club in fencing, Bahrain Shooting Club in shooting, while Muharraq is taking part in the basketball event.
Athletes from 14 Arab countries, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, the UAE, Yemen, Egypt, Morocco, Lebanon, Libya, Palestine, Sudan, Jordan and Iraq, will be fighting it out in this 11-day women’s tournament.
