?Bahrain yesterday (Sep. 29) missed on an opportunity to strengthen their medal tally in the Third Islamic Solidarity Games, being held in Palembang, Indonesia.The nationals crashed out of the taekwondo event with two days remaining for the Games, as Hisham Al Hashmi and Mohammed Saleh hailed to add to their nation’s overall medals.In the men’s under-58kg section, Al Hashmi started on a high note, winning his first bout to Azerbaijan’s Ibragimov Magomedyassin 8-4 following an impressive all-round performance.However, in his next game, Al Hashmi faced a more experienced opponent – Aggo Septian of Indonesia who took advantage of the huge support from the home crowd to win the match 10-7 and end Bahrain’s medal bid in this weight catgory. Bahrain’s other fighter Saleh had a tougher challenge as he faced Malaysian champion Lai Teik Woon, whom he lost to 4-1 in a one-sided clash.Meanwhile, Bahrain’s Fahad Al Busta will be in action today when he lines up for the men’s under-63kg section against Chadian champion Abdelkadre Hassan Alio.Bahrain has so far won a total of five medals in this edition Games – two gold, one silver and two bronze, four of which were won in athletics.Former world champion Maryam Jamal and Shitaye Eshete won Bahrain’s gold medals in the Games in the 5,000m and 10,000m, respectively. The kingdom’s only silver was claimed by Mohammed Yousif in the men’s triple jump, while Mahboob Hasan and Tareq Mubarak took the bronze medals in the men’s 10,000m and 3,000m events.Women’s national taekwondo team rising player Fajer Al Binali also clinched an additional bronze in the women’s ‘Poomse’.The 10-day Islamic Solidarity Games, which concludes on October 1, is being held under the slogan “Unity and Harmony”.Around 1,759 athletes and 624 officials are taking part in the Games, featuring 13 disciplines.
