Bahrain Olympic Committee’s (BOC) Medical Committee Chairman Dr Khalid Al Alawi chaired the first meeting of the committee in Seef.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr Al Alawi stressed the importance of working together as a team in order to achieve the main objectives for which this standing committee was found for.
Dr Al Alawi and other committee members then discussed the main tasks of each member in the near future, which will focus on the health aspects related to certain issues like medical check-ups and players treatment.
Other aspects are fighting doping, nutrition, health education and awareness for national teams athletes and all that would contribute to boosting the health conditions of the players.
Dr Al Alawi stressed the necessity of activating the role of the committee in regards to the upcoming overseas participations of the BOC, the most important of which are the 17th Asian Games (Incheon 2014), the Fourth Asian Games Beach fourth (Bukit 2014), and the Second Youth Olympic Games (Nanjing 2014) by looking into the safety of the players and prepare them in terms of physical health in order to ensure an honorable representation of the Kingdom.
The committee chairman added that his committee will continue to hold these meetings on regular basis, noting that the next meeting will focus on the work plan that will be carried out till the end of 2014, and shall be submitted to the BOC board late on for approval.
The meeting was also attended by committee members – BOC sports advisor Jalil Asad, National Sports Medicine Centre head Dr Khalid Al Shaikh and BOC Technical Director Lounes Madene.
