?The joint youth programmes in the GCC had a significant increase by 100 per cent this year, it was announced yesterday (MAY 18) after the 30th meeting of the GCC Youth and Sports Ministries’ Undersecretaries at the Ritz Carlton’s Al Ghazal Ballroom.
There were 12 more programmes this year compared to 2012, which represents a major step undertaken by youth and sports ministries in the Gulf region in an attempt to cover all areas and promote joint co-operation among the people of the GCC.
The meeting was one of several gatherings in Bahrain, featuring high-ranking sports representatives from around the Gulf region in an attempt to develop youth and sports sectors in the GCC.
Chaired by General Organisation for Youth and Sports President Hisham bin Mohammed Al Joweder, the meeting highlighted a number of topics on their agenda and came up with the necessary recommendations.
Other issues in yesterday’s meeting were discussing astudy to develop youth action in the GCC, a call to honour sports leaders and the pioneering youth who had significant contributions to their respective societies and discussions on using the social networks to communicate with the younger generation and review the programmes presented to them.
These recommendations will now be reviewed by Presidents of the GCC Youth and Sports Ministers for their meeting tomorrow (MAY 20) for final approval.
Yesterday’s meeting was also attended by Humanitarian and Environmental Affairs assistant secretary general at the Secretariat of GCC countries Abdulla Al Hashim, UAE’s Public Authority for Youth and Sports Welfare General Secretary Ibrahim Abdulmalik, Youth Affairs Undersecretary in Saudi Arabia Mohammed Al Qarnas, Sports Affairs Ministry Undersecretary in Oman Shaikh Rashad Al Hinai, Qatar’s Culture, Arts and Heritage Ministry General Secretary Mubarak Al Khalifa, Youth Affairs Deputy Director in Kuwait Jassim Al Besarah and Goys Youth and Sports Affairs Director General Abdulrahman Askar.
This meeting followed the Co-operation and Follow-up Committee, the Executive Office’s consultative meetings and the 77th meeting of the Executive Office of GCC National Olympic Committees’ Presidents held over the last three days to revise andmake necessary amendments on the consolidated bylaw of the GCC Sports Organising Committees system.
Meanwhile, the GCC National Olympic Committees’ Presidents will attend their 27th meeting today (MAY 19(.
Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa will chair this meeting, in which the recommendations submitted by the Executive Office will be reviewed.
The programme of this major regional assembly is scheduled to finish on tomorrow when the GCC Youth and Sports Ministers meeting takes place.
