The 2015 Schools Mini Olympics is all set to commence on April 21, Organizing Committee chairman Lounes Madene said yesterday (Saturday).

Six sporting events – Athletics, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, football and swimming will be featured at this year’s Mini Olympics, with the qualifying matches in football and basketball scheduled to start tomorrow (Monday).
According to Madene, the official logo of this year’s edition of the Mini Olympics, which will continue until April 30 with the closing ceremony, was also finalized.
Madene said the logo symbolizes the Olympic torch, pointing out that the committee seeks to promote the Olympics culture among young participants at the Mini Olympics. 
He also asserted that the event organisers allowed the entry of up to two athletes who are registered in their respective sports associations, in each of the six sports competitions to take place during the 2015 edition of the Mini Olympics.
According to Madene, the opening ceremony will begin with athletes holding the Olympic torch from the Education Ministry premises towards the National Stadium in Riffa, while the closing ceremony is due to take place at Khalifa Sports City’s gym in Isa Town.
The event is organized by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) in cooperation with the Education Ministry and the sports associations.
The Mini Olympics aims to spread and promote the values and principles of the Olympic among government and private schools in the Kingdom, and motivate them to practice sports activities and follow a healthy life style.
This event features cultural programmes and field visits to national teams training as well as meetings with Olympic heroes in an attempt to boost their morale and achieve the aspirations in future Olympics.
Among the main objectives of the Mini Olympics is to discover promising sports talent, build a solid foundation and involve them in competitive sporting activities organized by sports clubs and associations, as well as to establish competitive sports activities organized at the school.
Other goals are to spread and promote the values and principles of the Olympics within the schools community, motivate students to practice sports activities and increasing awareness among schools on the importance of developing sports activities, and activate community partnership with participating authorities.
