The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) today (Saturday, Jan. 10) is organizing a symposium on the 2015 Code to fight against doping.
The Bahrain symposium aims to gather athletes of different sports, coaches and administrators within the sports federations, sports clubs, students and physical education teachers, and all those related to sports.
Taking place at the Gulf Hotel’s Al Dana 1 Ballroom at 9.30am, the event will be under the patronage of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and BOC vice president Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa.
BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar will be giving the opening remarks today, to be followed by a short film on doping in the field of sport, then the first sessions of the seminar will take place.
Some of the most prominent regional speakers in this field will be present today. They include Saudi Arabia’s Dr. Mohammed Saleh Konbaz, who heads the Saudi Anti-Doping Committee (SAADC), and is a member of the Saudi Olympic Committee.
He is also member of the Medical Committee at the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), a member of the founding board of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), President of the UNESCO International Convention against Doping in Sport.
Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Al Dosari of Kuwait, a member of Kuwait’s Anti-Doping Committee (KADC) and chairman of the Awareness and Education Committee, will also be attending the seminar.
Al Doseri is also a member of the Awareness and Education Committee at the Regional Anti-Doping Organization in the GCC and Yemen (RADO), and is chairman of the Awareness and Education at the Sports Medicine Department.
The Bahrain Olympic Committee has sent out invitations to all the sports federations to take advantage of this symposium, which aims to explain the significant changes between the 2009 Code and the ones in 2015.
Some of the other objectives is to spread awareness of the dangers of steroids and their impact on athletes as well as members of the community. Also during the symposium, the organisers will present the national anti-doping bylaw with its latest amendments made by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
