Fourteen national sports associations were rewarded for their achievements in 2014, the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) announced yesterday (Saturday, Jan. 4).
During a reception ceremony held at the committee’s premises in Seef, representatives of 14 associations – including handball, basketball, cycling, athletics and, collected the awards.
Other associations honored on this occasion were fencing, swimming, bowling, weightlifting and bodybuilding, maritime sports, billiards and snooker, gymnastics, gold, volleyball and sports for the disabled.
BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, who presented the awards, welcomed the sports associations’ representatives and congratulated them on their respective remarkable results achieved on the regional, Arab and continental levels.
He added that the Olympic Committee has allocated 75 per cent of its annual budget to support the sports associations, and that it is always keen to abide by the incentives regulation, which the committee believe would boost the morale of the athletes to achieve the best results.
Askar conveyed the greetings and best wishes of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and BOC president Shaikh Nasser bin Hama Al Khalifa, and Supreme Council vice-chairman Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa.
The function was also attended by sports affairs executive director Jehad Khalfan as well as a number of BOC directors.
